The story so far...
In 1993, a Community Development Worker started the idea of a credit union for the Bulwell area. Through hard work a group of 12 to 15 people underwent Training and Development over two years as well as having social and fun events leading to the formation of the credit union.
- Registration of Bulwell Credit Union on 2nd April 1997 - provision of savings and lending commences
- Funding secured in September 1999 for Numbers for Life and Financial Systems Training Project
- £100,000 asset mark reached August 2002
- Co-op store premises opened in September 2002
- European Funding secured for Credit Union Development Initiative
- Credit Union expanded in February 2003 - covering North Nottingham (Bestwood, Bestwood Village, Bulwell, Carrington, Cinderhill, Mapperley, Old Basford, Rise Park, Sherwood, Top Valley and Whitemoor areas) catering for over 90,000 people
- Wilkinson Hardware Ltd take occupancy of the store.
- Computerised Passbook 'live' system (FOCUS) installed - April 2003
- £300,000 asset mark reached January 2005
- Credits 4 You Project re-launched March 2005
We aim to provide a useful financial service to our members and are proving to be remarkably successful. We have granted hundreds of loans to local people at very low rates of interest over the past ten years of service to our communities… Not bad for voluntary action!
